NZ-founded company utilising light to develop a low-emissions ryegrass with increased productivity gains.
BioLumic is applying its unique light signalling technology to ryegrass with a goal to increase lipid (fat) content which subsequently reduces methane emissions from animals that consume it.
The company has already improved plant performance across 12 crops by applying light treatments to seeds, regulating their genetic expression and unlocking their natural genetic potential.
BioLumic is targeting a 2-3 per cent increase in the lipids content of ryegrass to drive methane reduction by over 12 per cent, plus potential productivity gains.
